Workation in Salento for Small Teams: a Masseria as Your Office for a Week
Remote teams have a problem that online meetings do not solve: they never see each other. The workation is the answer that is catching on: a week in which the team works as normal, but in the same place, somewhere worth the journey. In Salento the offer is still rare, and almost always designed for the lone digital nomad. A team of 6 to 16 people needs something else: a whole house, a room to work in, a kitchen, and no other guests around. That is exactly what Masseria Montanari, in Carpignano Salentino, offers.
What a team really needs
Not a hotel room each and a meeting room booked by the hour. It needs one single place where the days have a rhythm: you work together in the morning in the same room, you have lunch together, you go back to your own laptop in the afternoon, in the evening you cook or go out. The masseria is built that way: the vaulted hall in stone, 55 m² air-conditioned with Wi-Fi and a screen, is the meeting room; the six independent lodgings, with their kitchens, are the rooms; the garden with its olive trees is the break. And the property is in exclusive use: you would be the only group.
Who sleeps where
Six lodgings for 16 sleeping places: two apartments, two studios, two rooms. A team of 8 has a room each; a team of 12 to 16 shares the apartments. A typical week
Monday: arrival in the afternoon, settling in, dinner in the garden and an opening circle to say what everyone expects from the week. Tuesday to Thursday: work. Mornings together in the vaulted hall for the things that do not come off online (planning, retrospectives, decisions), afternoons each to their own. One afternoon off for the sea: Torre Sant'Andrea and the Baia dei Turchi are 20 minutes away. Friday: a half day to close and, if you like, the real team building: a team breathing session led by Davide, a Salento cooking class, a dinner over the fire. Weekend: those who stay on have Otranto, Lecce and the Grecìa Salentina within easy reach.
Connectivity and work
Stable Wi-Fi throughout the masseria, a screen for presentations in the hall, sockets everywhere, silence guaranteed by the countryside. For a whole team on video calls at the same time we recommend telling us in advance: we size the connection to the group. There is no coworking space: there is a house, and that is the difference you are looking for.
The right season
From October to April the masseria is quieter, prices are those of the low season and the climate lets you work in the garden in November as in March. The hall is air-conditioned and the wood-fired oven warms the evenings. May and September combine work and sea; July and August are possible but Salento is full, and the workation loses part of its silence.
What it costs
The reference point is the rental of the whole masseria, from 500 to 800 € per day depending on the season, divided by the team: for 12 people and five nights that generally means between 200 and 330 € per person for the entire week of accommodation, kitchens and hall included. Meals and activities are added as you choose: shared cooking, local catering or an evening from the three team building formats. For comparison, a coworking space with rooms in the city costs from 80 € per person per night, without the house.
