Salento in 7 Days: The Perfect Itinerary from the Inland

Almost every Salento itinerary keeps you hugging the coast, hopping from beach to beach. We suggest the opposite: a base inland, from which you can reach the sea, the old villages and the art cities every day without long drives. It's the most relaxed — and most authentic — way to spend a week here. Here's a seven-day itinerary starting from the farmhouse, in Carpignano Salentino.

Day 1 – Arrival and a first evening in the village

Arrival, settling in, and a slow breath. The first evening is perfect for finding your feet: a stroll through the village, dinner with local flavours, and the silence of the countryside. No plans: Salento is best savoured when you give it time.

Day 2 – Otranto and the Adriatic coast

Head east, towards the nearest stretch of sea. Spend the morning in Otranto, exploring the old town, the castle and the Tree of Life mosaic; in the afternoon, hit the beach at the Baia dei Turchi or the Laghi Alimini. Back home at sunset.

Day 3 – The Grecìa Salentina

A day in the Greek inland: the villages of Corigliano d'Otranto, Castrignano dei Greci and Soleto, where the Griko language still lives on. A slow pace, flower-filled courtyards, and a stop for a pasticciotto. A side of Salento that few people know.

Day 4 – Lecce, capital of the Baroque

A day in the city. Lecce deserves a whole day to itself: the Basilica di Santa Croce, Piazza del Duomo, the Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Sant'Oronzo, and the papier-mâché workshops. In the evening, an aperitivo in the floodlit old town.

Day 5 – The Ionian coast

A change of sea. The Ionian offers white sand and shallow water: Gallipoli, with its old town set on an island, or Porto Cesareo and Punta Prosciutto for a day of pure seaside relaxation. At sunset, the Ionian is at its very best.

Day 6 – The far south

Towards the tip of the heel: Santa Maria di Leuca, where the Adriatic and the Ionian meet, and the coastline of caves and cliffs between Castro and Santa Cesarea Terme. Spectacular landscapes, and far fewer crowds.

Day 7 – Relax and farewells

The last day is for whatever you loved most: a return to your favourite beach, a wander through the markets for a few last flavours to take home, or simply the farmhouse garden. You leave Salento with the promise to come back.

Why a central base makes all the difference

In a single week you've experienced two seas, two art cities and the Greek inland — without ever changing accommodation and without hours behind the wheel. That's the advantage of an inland base: every destination is within a day's reach, and every evening you return to the quiet of the countryside. The smartest way to discover Salento.
